New Director General of NSRMEA Pledges Commitment to Agency's Sustained Growth

Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency, Mr. Michael Kolawole Ogunbiyi has assured staff of the agency and the general public of his commitment towards sustaining the growth momentum and commendable performance of the agency in pursuance of its mandate. He made this known on the sidelines of a recent meeting with management staff of the agency at the headquarters in Kaduna.


Mr. Ogunbiyi, who took over from the former DG of the agency, Dr. Umar Albarka Hassan in July 2022, will now head the affairs of the NSRMEA following a rich background of broad experience spanning over 30 years in various capacities. Before his current position, Mr. Ogunbiyi was the Head, Iron and Ferro Alloy department at the agency where he oversaw and supervised several exploration projects in search of iron-ore and other steel raw materials.


In his words, "this agency has a rich history of performance and professionalism. In the course of our 51-year history as a body, we have continued to spearhead the search for raw materials like Iron-ore, coal, bauxite, silica sand, manganese, and several other minerals in our bid to push for the nation's industrialisation through steel production. Our achievements in this regard is clear for everyone to see, with hundreds of millions of tonnes in proven deposits across the length and breadth of Nigeria.


"The NIMEP project we participated in recently easily comes to mind. We've achieved great results, especially in Nasko Libale in Niger state and Tajimi in Kogi State. For me, this new role is a privilege and an opportunity to serve even more diligently, and to guide the committed staff of the agency in fulfilling our mandate and playing our part in the development of the country," he said.


Mr. Ogunbiyi further thanked the former DG for his dedication and the achievements of the agency during his time, promising to carry on the good works that he started, while also exploring innovations for enhanced performance.
